Holiday Ball was Beautiful in New Location

On December 13 the Holiday Ball was held in a new venue in order to accommodate the growing number of attendees. The Phyllis & Raanan Katz Sports Center Gymnasium was transformed into a winter wonderland by City staff. Floor coverings, drapes and clever lighting changed the space into a glamorous ballroom. Beautiful, projected snowflake lights were shown on the walls; trees and tinsel graced the tables. Guests enjoyed good Italian food and popular tunes from the band. Gloria Taft said, “The ambience was so beautiful that you didn’t even know you were in a gym.” If you missed this dinner dance, be sure not to miss the next one, the Spring Fling, on March 14, 2015. Residents may sign up beginning February 9, 2015.

Breaking News! Raanan Katz Donates $45,000.00 to Charter a Plane That Will Take 150 Children To Watch The Israel National Basketball Team at the European Championship.

Israeli Businessman Raanan Katz - Owner RK Centers, Limited Partner Miami Heat

Raanan Katz has donated $45,000 to send 150 children from the settlements around Gaza to Cyprus where the Israel National Basketball Team is playing in the European Championship.

FIBA did not allow the European teams to play in Israel because it considered Israel an unsafe place, without justification.  Raanan Katz commented that, "walking in Tel Aviv is much safer than walking in many American cities."

Raanan Katz is Honored by having a Street renamed after him. Raanan Katz Boulevard!

Raanan Katz was honored for his tireless commitment to the development  of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. The city has renamed 170th Street as Raanan Katz Boulevard. The roadway is at the entrance of RK Town Center North. This is one of the 6 properties Raanan Katz owns along Collins Avenue in the seaside city.

Company Timeline

1984 - Store #1- The Company was started by Allen and his father, Tom. Located at the corner of Bird and Red Road in Miami, this store has been serving Coral Gables and its surrounding communities.
The store first opened under the Piggly Wiggly franchise name but that was dropped and the store renamed to Milam's Markets in 1989.
1997 - Store #2 - Also a former Piggly Wiggly, this store, located in Miami Springs, was purchased and renamed to join the Milam's Markets team.
1999 - Store #3 - This former Hyde Park store located in Coconut Grove was purchased and renamed to become the 3rd Milam's Markets.
2000 - Store #4 - Formerly called Sunny Supermarket; the fourth addition of our family's business is located in Sunny Isles Beach.
2002 - The Milams build their corporate office in Miami Springs, Florida.
2009 - The Milams completely renovate and expand store #3 in Coconut Grove.
At the same time, a liquor store, Grove Liquors, is added. This store is located next to the Coconut Grove store.
2011 - The store located in Sunny Isles Beach is completely renovated.

Allen Milam - President and CEO
Mike Milam - Executive Vice President
Mike started with the company in 1984 and became a business partner in 1996. Mike helps to oversee operations in all four stores as well as managing wine operations for the company.
Marie Milam Dixon - Secretary & Treasurer
Marie graduated from the University of Florida with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She joined the company in 1991.
Max Milam - Executive Vice President and CFO
Max graduated from Florida State University in 1983 with an accounting degree. After spending eight years with Ernst & Young as a public accountant, he went on to own and operate a five store restaurant chain. Max joined the family in the grocery business in 1999.


The Location at Raanan Katz's companies shopping center opened in 2000 and has been a great location in Sunny Isles Beach. The shopping center has tight parking in the front but towards the back enterance of the store there is plenty of parking. Raanan Katz commented, "The renovated store shows the Milam's Family committment to Sunny Isles Beach Residents and the surrounding communites, they did a fantastic job and we look forward to working with them for years to come".

RK Centers has purchased RK Sage Plaza (800 E. Hallandale Beach Blvd, Hallandale Beach, FL) and RK Sans Souci Plaza (2170 NE 123rd Street, North Miami, FL).

Raanan Katz first arrived in the United States in his early twenties with a reputation as an excellent outside shooter on the Israeli National Basketball Team. After settling in Boston, Raanan purchased a small apartment building with the money he earned playing professional basketball. During the next several years, he amassed over 2,000 apartment units in the Greater Boston area.
